Cooking Daddy: Air-fried Teriyaki Salmon

J bought a Philip AirFryer a while back and we hadn't used it much until recently but we've been trying to cook more of our own food recently and this little machine has come in handy.

We had been trying to stick to steaming, roasting or baking our food basically because these methods do not provide the mess that frying or deep frying produces.

The Philips AirFryer changes all that. Instead of frying your food with oil, the AirFryer accomplishes that with superheated air. It also does so without a need to preheat as it is capable of attaining a cooking temperature of 200°C withing 3 minutes. Talk about being useful eh? The health benefits are obvious too, cooking without oil can only mean a healthier meal.

Our AirFryer!
Anyway, my dear daughter loves teriyaki salmon and we attempted to cook that with the AirFryer.

Ingredients:
  1. Salmon Fillet
  2. Teriyaki Marinade
We prefer the 'thick' Marinade as it sticks to the salmon fillet

If you prefer a more flavourful piece of salmon, do let it marinate for a bit, we're usually in a rush for time so we just slap on the teriyaki marinade, spread it around and pop it into the AirFryer. Oh, before you place it into the AirFryer, line it with baking paper so that the salmon doesn't stick to the pan else it is a real bother come washing up time.

Instructions:
  1. Set the temperature to 180°C
  2. Set the timer to 10 minutes (slight more if you prefer it a little more cooked) and you're done. It is really that simple!
The end product is a salmon that's tasty, soft and flaky to the touch. It is hard to imagine that the AirFryer cooks with such a finesse but it does! I really must remember to take a photo of the end product. The problem is that the kids dig in straight away once it comes out of the AirFryer. This is definitely a welcome addition to the kitchen.

I have cooked many other items in the AirFryer since then and may get around to sharing them soon but already I've been lamenting a shortfall of the AirFryer - its size.

Philips has rectified that as you will see from their website, they have released the Avance Collection AirFryer XL, which has an increased capacity of 1.2kg, up from 0.8kg.

Would dearly love to give that version a spin as I've been dreaming of cooking a whole chicken in an AirFryer but that will have to wait I guess. In case you've been wondering? I have cooked 4 to 5 drumsticks in the normal AirFryer but as the drumsticks are stacked on top of one another, cooking wasn't too even.
